No on Prop 1 Print E-mail
Greater Spokane Incorporated (GSI) has come out against the Community Bill of Rights, which will be listed as Proposition 1 on the November ballot.

We believe this measure will drive business out of Spokane, costing our region valuable jobs.
  • Prop 1 will put more regulations on new developments and businesses thinking of expanding.
  • Businesses already in Spokane, and those looking to move to Spokane, could expand/move elsewhere.
  • The measure will clog our courts with frivolous lawsuits focusing on ambiguous issues, such as giving rights to the Spokane River and aquifer.
  • Prop 1 will result in a handful of unelected individuals making policy decisions for the rest of us.
At a time when the economy - and the construction industry in particular - is suffering, our community and region needs business-friendly policies.

The Community Bill of Rights was soundly defeated in 2009 by a 3 to 1 margin. Then, it was on the ballot as Prop 4. This year's version is stripped down, but still anti-business. We are currently working with the Spokane JOBS Coalition to oppose Prop 1.
