Businesses Benefiting from Tax Incentives Program Print E-mail
Leisure Concepts, a manufacturer of hot tub accessories in Spokane, has applied for a third expansion to add two new employees and 20,000 sq. ft. of manufacturing capability.  Jeff Rogers, CFO, stated “Utilizing the CEZ incentive in 2002 and 2006 allowed us to save on the tax dollars associated with our 70,000+ sq. ft. of facility expansion which added fifteen new employees. This year, we are going through another expansion and saving again with this great program.” The expansions have allowed Leisure Concepts to move all phases of the manufacturing in-house from molding to powder coating.  Efficiency and quality are increased and the company is able to respond to changes more quickly. Much of the production is mechanized and the new facility adds a loading dock to make shipping easier. Leisure Concepts has continued to do well with smart growth; Leisure Concepts has even added a new line called Moto-concepts.  Any company that is able to expand now, especially while taking advantage of the incentives, will be ready when the manufacturing sector picks up.

Lumber Yard Supply, a building material distributor, was founded in the early 1940s and has branches in Montana and Spokane Valley. It is a progressive, growth-oriented company and recently added the manufacturing of interior and exterior doors.  Mark Griffith, General  Manager, states “We have only been in the door market for 18 months, but made the decision to go forward now because we are committed to a long term strategy.” Lumber Yard Supply has completed the shop expansion, aided by the CEZ program, and will hire four new employees. Mark says, “The CEZ process couldn’t have been easier - from the initial meeting through the audit.”

Western Systems and Fabrication, a manufacturer of recycling and refuse-related products, has recently completed a half million dollar expansion and hired seven new employees. Family-owned, they have been in the refuse industry for over 50 years - fabricating, refurbishing and distributing products for the regional refuse industry. In addition to custom fabrication of refuse equipment, the company is also expanding into related technical products. President Mark Choate greeted guests at a recent open house for thr new expansion where their innovative equipment was on display – from solar trash compactors to underground pipeline video inspection robots with cameras.

Metal Rollforming Systems (MRS) is a manufacturer of rollformers which produce steel roofing and siding. MRS also offers a wide variety of additional equipment which deals with efficient workflow. All MRS products are manufactured in-house to ensure the highest quality standards. The company is doing well despite the economy. President Dan McDonald, says “This year we’ll set records.” As a result, MRS has purchased 4.5 acres and plan to move operations into their new 11,500 sq. ft. building in October. It will add three new employees and be in a great position for more growth as the economy picks up.  Dan’s wife Carol said they read about the CEZ program in Greater Spokane Incorporated’s Accelerating Regional Economic Prosperity, a Journal of Business insert.  She called Stan Key, Industry Manager at GSI, and she found the process fairly simple.
