Google is planning to build ultra high-speed Internet connections in test cities across the nation as a part of their Google Fiber for Communities project. If selected, Spokane's Internet speed would be up to 100 times faster than what the majority of Americans have access to currently. Greater Spokane Incorporated is working with the City of Spokane, Avista Corp. and others to promote how the program is in line with Spokane's economic and educational goals. In addition, such high-speed access strengthens business in dozens of industries and compliments the city's commitment to community well-being. “We are sure the competition for this project will be fierce, but we believe that Spokane would be a good choice for Google,” says Mayor Mary Verner.
