Career Exploration Day Gives Businesses Opportunity (Spokane, Wash.) – The second Annual Career Exploration Day happens March 10th at the National Guard Readiness Center (1626 N Rebecca, next to SCC). Two-thousand 7th-12th graders will participate in hands-on demonstrations and activities in high-demand, high-growth fields of manufacturing, healthcare, aerospace, business and professional services, construction, and hospitality and tourism. Spokane regional businesses are invited to participate by providing an interactive booth/display and talking to kids about careers in their industry. Business can rent a booth for $100 or sponsor the Career Exploration Days event. To take part, fill out the flyer and return it to Iveth Canales at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or fax it to 509-747-0077. The success of Greater Spokane Incorporated's Teaching the Teacher's workshops, which provide hands-on experience in diverse technical fields such as aviation mechanics, physical therapy and medical laboratories has shown that getting students, parents and teachers of 7th - 12th graders involved in the business community can guide students towards careers in technical fields. One student told his teacher at last year's career fair, "I didn't even know that these were actual jobs!" Another noted, "I knew what I wanted to do, but didn't know how to get there. Now I do." The Career Exploration Day is made possible by a grant from the Qwest Foundation and our sponsors: Community Colleges of Spokane and TINCAN.
