Spokane Region Maintains Low Cost of Living |
|
(Spokane, WA)- Quarter 2 2010 Annual Average Data report by the Council for Community and Economic Research (C2ER) shows the Spokane region's cost of living remains below the national average and among the lowest of major western cities. Of the 322 urban areas participating across the United States, Spokane ranked lower than participating peer communities: Albuquerque, NM; Raleigh-Cary, NC; Tucson, AZ; Salt Lake City, UT; Reno-Sparks, NV; Tacoma, WA; Portland, OR; and every participating city in California.

McKinstry, a full-service design, build, operate and maintain (DBOM) firm, which started operations in Spokane in 2002, has announced plans to expand in the City of Spokane, with long-range plans to add 100 new jobs. McKinstry, with over 1,600 employees nationwide and over $400 million in annual revenues, currently has two locations in the Spokane area, but will consolidate both groups into the 103-year-old Great Northern Building located at 802 E. Spokane Falls Blvd in the University District.

Spokane Expansions Benefit from Tax Incentives Program |

In this time of economic uncertainty, a number of businesses in the Spokane region are not only surviving, but expanding and taking advantage of the Community Empowerment Zone (CEZ) tax incentives program. In 2010 alone, Greater Spokane Incorporated, the region’s Chamber and Economic Development Council, assisted companies with CEZ applications for nearly $3 million of capital projects, resulting in Sales and Use Tax savings to those companies of almost $250,000.

The theme of this year’s awards is “Educate – Innovate – Celebrate,” and the awards are growing to include an additional category for Emerging Innovator of the Year. This award recognizes an under-35 individual or team who has developed or implemented new forms of innovation and technology to help grow our economy.
