The state's chief economist, whose tenure began right when the nation's economy began to flounder, will step down to pursue opportunities in the private sector.

Raha was in charge of delivering state economic forecasts that were never very positive, but always did it with a sense of humor.

Steve Lerch, who was the interim economist before Raha was appointed, will once again be the interim chief economist. The state will conduct a nationwide search for Raha's replacement.
