This lawsuit would impact the retirees in two of the state’s older pension plans, Public Employees Retirement System Plan 1 and Teachers Retirement System Plan 1. About 109,000 members of the pension plans were affected. When the state passed this legislature to eliminate the cost-of-living adjustments (COLA), they saved about $400 million in pension contributions.
