The 2012 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies Appropriations bill includes budget authority of $55.3 billion, according to a release from the U.S. Senate Committee on Appropriations. Included in the bill is $550 million for "significant transportation projects." These projects are part of the Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) Grant. The TIGER Grant gave $35 million for construction of southbound lanes on the North Spokane Corridor. Construction on those lanes is happening right now. The 2012 TIGER Grant money will support highways, bridges, public transportation, passenger and freight railroads and port infrastructure. At least $120 million for projects in rural communities must be spent. It's not yet clear which projects around the nation will be funded. |
