Congress Returns to Washington D.C. Print E-mail

lincolnDeficit reduction a top priority.

The month of September brings our federal elected officials back to Washington D.C. from the August recess. With a lot on its plate, Congress will, among other things, work to reduce the national deficit and find at least $1.2 trillion in savings before Nov. 23.

The Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction formed from the Budget Control Act of 2011. It's made up of 12 members from the House and Senate. Washington Senator Patty Murray co-chairs the committee, along with Jeb Hensarling (R-TX).
