Unemployment Rates Rise, But Economic Recovery Is Still Happening Print E-mail

Despite unemployment rates still slightly increasing, the economy is starting to recover as people look for jobs in Spokane County.

Today, the Washington Employment Security Department said Spokane County’s unemployment rates rose to 10.5 percent this past month, a slight increase from 10.4 in February.

Many factors could be at play here, such as the poor weather’s effect on construction jobs.  This could also be a sign of economic recovery; more people looking for jobs in Spokane County could mean workers are becoming more optimistic about job prospects.

The good news is that job growth is definitely happening.  Manufacturing jobs are up by 600 since last fall, jobs in the private sector are up by 800, and Washington’s unemployment rate continues to be more positive than that of the nation.
