The Department of Revenue needs your help in simplifying the tax process in the state of Washington. As part of Governor Gregoire's Executive Order last October, the DOR is traveling around the state, listenting to small businesses about how the tax process can be made more simple. Washington is one of five states with a sales tax but no personal or corporate income tax. The state also relies heavily on the sales tax. 48 percent of the states revenue comes from the sales tax, compared to the national average of 22.9 percent. The B&O tax is included in sales taxes. In addition, 97% of our state's taxpayers are small businesses. Here's how you can help simplify the tax process in Washington: Take this survey created by the DOR to help make the tax process easier, and share your ideas as well. The DOR met with a few small businesses in our offices on Feb. 14 to see what those small businesses had to say. They discussed e-filing, e-notices of tax changes and user-friendly online tools, among other topics. What do you think? Take the survey to help shape our tax process. |
