Urge your legislators to support the development of a four-year medical education and academic health science center. Our goals this biennium are $70 million capital funding for the Biomedical and Health Science facility that will house schools of pharmacy and medicine; and $1.8 million operating funds for expansion of graduate medical education sites and planning for governance models and faculty recruitment. Our region faces a critical challenge. We have fewer physicians/10,000 than most of the nation while facing an aging population and expanded medical demand with national health care reform. A feasibility study by the University of Washington concluded that Spokane’s current WWAMI site be expanded to 100-120 students per year.
