June 17, 2010

(SPOKANE, Wash.)  - Approximately 140 people attended the second annual State of the Green Economy yesterday.   The event was hosted by CLEEN|NW, a consortium of leading energy efficiency northwest companies led by Greater Spokane Incorporated.

The program, featuring remarks from Spokane City Mayor Mary Verner, Hal Calbom of Evergreen Multimedia, Senate Majority Leader Lisa Brown, Paul Zasada of McKinstry, Jayson Hunnel of Greenstone, and video messages from Senator Maria Cantwell, and Representative Cathy McMorris Rodgers - focused on the opportunities in the Inland Northwest to create sustainable related 'clean-tech' jobs, what this industry looks like from a public policy perspective, and what the future holds for businesses in the clean-tech industry and everyday companies faced with implementing energy-efficiency practices.
Spokane's efforts are receiving national attention as the local business environment was recently noted as an emerging center of expertise by Clean Edge, Inc. for smart grid networking, controls and devices. For more information on this designation, visit www.cleanedge.com.

The group's new web site www.cleennw.org was launched and includes events, news, and resources around clean technology and energy efficiency in the greater Spokane region.  Businesses are encouraged to visit the site and add their name to the business directory.   SiteCrafting, a web-based solution provider and recent business recruit, designed the site as part of a Gear Grant - awarded quarterly to non-profit organizations as a way to give back to the community.
