POSITION DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE: Small Business Growth Program Manager

 

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Vice President, Membership

 

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Regular, Full-time

Exempt – Administrative

 

SUPERVISION RESPONSIBILITIES: None, with the exception of possible future interns

PURPOSE:

In conjunction with GSI’s strategic plan, actively support the growth and development of small business by outreaching to members, seeking both general and specific industry input on key policy initiatives, providing education and information resources important to business success, and fostering business growth and building relationships through GSI. The Small Business Growth Program Manager maintains regular contact and fosters positive associations with partner organizations to which businesses are referred for assistance.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Outreach & Program Development

  • Create and manage a Small Business Advisory Committee, the purpose of which is to be a conduit to the program manager on behalf of GSI’s small business members.
  • Plan and execute BIZStreet/Small Business events and workshops, including preparation of program collateral, handling registration, serving as program facilitator, and providing an evaluation (program, content, presenter, attendance, financial) of each program.
  • Work with Membership & Events team to identify, secure and retain annual program sponsors, and maintain good investor relations by providing periodic updates and success stories.
  • Redevelop and manage the Member-to-Member Discount Program; work with Marketing Department to plan and execute an annual marketing strategy to build participation, maximize program value, and measure effectiveness; plan to include a Buy Local component.
  • Administer the BIZStreet Advisors Program
  • Support and participate in other GSI events aligned with the organization’s strategic initiatives.

Marketing, Communications & PR

  • Outreach to small businesses participating in BIZStreet programs to identify success stories, membership and participation ROI, and testimonials; work with Mar/Com staff to communicate to members, prospects and media.
  • Work with key staff in Public Policy, Workforce Development, Economic Development, and Membership to identify how GSI’s role positively impacts small business.
  • Work closely with GSI Mar/Com staff to communicate those positive impacts and GSI’s value to members (focused on small business), civic partners, and media utilizing a variety of appropriate communication mediums.
  • Write BIZStreet/Small Business e-newsletter, including conducting interviews and writing a Member Spotlight.
  • Maintain BIZStreet/Small Business program website pages
  • Work with Membership Team to support GSI’s three (3) B2B Leads Groups, identifying potential new participants to grow groups in size and effectiveness; potentially become GSI’s staff liaison for these groups.
  • Understand and maintain cooperative working relationship with partner organizations that support small business:  SNAP, SCORE, SBA, SIRTI and others.
  • Utilize SBA membership database program for communication to BIZStreet/Small Business participants,  B2B Groups, and referrals to partner organizations.

 

REQUIRED SKILLS, EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Skills
    • Ability to work well with staff, volunteers, and GSI members
    • Proven organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities & projects
    • Strong inter-personal, written and verbal communication skills
    • Active interest in understanding and serving the needs of existing small businesses
    • Ability to listen critically to identify needs and make appropriate referrals
    • Knowledge of business management and business assistance programs
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
    • Basic graphic design and electronic communications capabilities
    • Professional demeanor and appearance
    • Prior ownership or management of a small business preferred but not required
  • Education & Experience
    • Bachelor’s degree in business management, marketing or communications or equivalent business experience
    • Demonstrated record of entrepreneurial and customer service experience

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Daily use of computer and telephone is required.

Light lifting is required.

Periodic travel by automobile in the Spokane area will be required

 

WORK HOURS:

Regular hours are Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Some flexibility is necessary to accommodate programs and events.
