Greater Spokane Incorporated, in partnership with area educators from local school districts and the business community, leads the Career Awareness Campaign.Greater Spokane Incorporated, in partnership with area educators from local school districts and the business community,  leads the Career Awareness Campaign.  This campaign spotlights four high-demand, high-growth fields as identified by the Department of Labor; these industries are: allied health, manufacturing, aerospace, and business and professional services.

An all school – all industry educational career fair was recently held at the Spokane County Fairgrounds.  Over 6,000 7th – 12th graders, their teachers, counselors, and parents were bused to the fairgrounds to participate.

 

 

Did you know?

  • The minimum wage for Washington State would provide a yearly salary of $16,500; if you spent less than one year in a certificate program at the community colleges or a trade school you could in some cases more than double that salary.
  • There were 856 air traffic controller retirements in fiscal year 2007, representing 7.4 percent of the total experienced controller workforce.
  • Fifty-nine (59) percent of annual job openings in Washington State will require one month or more of postsecondary training between 2007-2012.
  • The average first year earning of an apprenticeship completer in 2005 was  $52,380.
  • 18,900 Washington State employers had difficulty finding workers with a vocational certificate in 2005.
