DC Fly-In: Exciting Opportunity for International Trade

Greater Spokane Incorporated advocates at every level of government for the prosperity of business, the community and the region. The goal is to promote policies that enhance our region’s business climate through economic and workforce development initiatives; facilities and infrastructure improvements; and capital and operating budget funding for regional programs and projects.

Each year, Greater Spokane Incorporated, in partnership with the Coeur d’Alene Chamber of Commerce, the Greater Spokane Valley Chamber of Commerce, the Post Falls Chamber of Commerce and the West Plains Chamber of Commerce, leads a group of business, education and community leaders to Olympia and Washington D.C. to advocate on behalf of our region.

This year we’re excited to announce a new component to the annual Washington, D.C. fly-in – a reception at the Embassy of India.

The event will connect members to trade-related opportunities in India, and seek to expand trade relations with the world’s 11th-largest economy. India’s sizeable and rapidly growing domestic market, growing financial markets, large English-speaking population, and stable democratic government make it an attractive destination for U.S. business. The intent is to build upon the already strong trade partnership between Washington State and India by discovering and creating mutually beneficial relationships.

Exploring opportunities with India came at the suggestion of Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers, who has been impressed with the country’s recent economic strides led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Seeing the potential to connect constituent businesses with India, the Congresswoman made the formal request of the embassy to host GSI’s delegation.

In addition to remarks by the Congresswoman, the event will also include comments from Indian officials, as well as GSI President & CEO, Steve Stevens. Additional agenda items meant to facilitate business discussions and connections are in the works – as further details are confirmed we will circulate the information.

The annual DC fly-in gives business, education, and community leaders the opportunity to meet with key officials and present policy priorities for the region. This year’s advocacy trip will include 40-45 leaders from local government, manufacturing, healthcare, financial services, aerospace, clean tech, and higher education.
