Federal:

In April of every year, members of Greater Spokane Incorporated and Chambers of Commerce from Spokane Valley, Post Falls, and Coeur d'Alene - along with elected officials from the City of Spokane, Spokane County, and the City of Spokane Valley – travel to Washington D.C. to advocate for a regional agenda.

The D.C. trip is valuable to our organization - and to our region - since we achieve results from our regional priorities. Successes from last year's trip total nearly 9.5 million dollars; view the projects here.

The Spokane region will receive $9.442 M for important projects in criminal justice, agriculture, and defense spending in the 2009 Federal Budget. Also included is much needed funding for Spokane Community Colleges, Northeast Community Center and Project Access.

Our congressional delegation (including Senator Patty Murray, Senator Maria Cantwell and Representative Cathy McMorris Rodgers) worked on our behalf to make federal funds available for important projects throughout our region. These projects contribute to the lifeblood of the Spokane region and have led us into a period of economic rejuvenation. The value of these investments is almost incalculable when you consider the long term implications they have on our region - the Intercollegiate College of Nursing, the University District, the Northeast Community Center and the YMCA. On an individual level, federal funds can mean such things as healthcare for patients from Project Access, which serves many low income, un-insured, Spokane County residents.

State and Local:

Greater Spokane Incorporated, Spokane Valley and West Plains Chambers of Commerce, along with business and civic leaders, travel to Olympia, Washington annually to present Eastern Washington’s unified agenda for initiatives identified as critical to economic growth for the region.

Greater Spokane Incorporated has been successful on behalf of Eastern Washington State with its unified voice and collaborative approach. Recent efforts resulted in more than $30 million in capital project funding for higher education student transportation, Mobius Science Center, and the Spokane YMCA/YWCA.

Our next trip to Olympia will take place January 13-15, 2010.  For more information, please contact Shelly O'Quinn, Workforce Development Manager at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Issues:
The North Spokane Corridor will help provide another route for freight transportation and ease congestion on other streets widely used by commuters. Greater Spokane Incorporated is currently seeking $35 million for the completion of the southbound lanes. Click here for a recent news story on our efforts.
